Breathing Beyond Pranayama with Dan Peppiatt

26th October, 2019 | 9:00 am - 27th October, 2019 | 5:00 pm

£140 – £160

  Sat October 26 – Sun 27th October 9:30-5pm

This intensive weekend of practice led exploration is for both teachers and practitioners; it has been two years in the planning and I have managed to cram those two years into two very full days!!

Many of us practice or teach pranayama as a part of our yoga but do we really know what we are doing and why?
Have you ever questioned if ‘traditional’ pranayama is most suitable for modern life, society and breathing habits?

Maybe there is a more efficient way to approach practising and teaching breath-work that is un-complicated, effective and well informed?

Drawing from a wide range of disciplines from free-diving to Buteyko; Systema to scientific research and Taoism to yoga, join Dan for two days of exploring exactly how efficiently you can breathe and what the breath can tell you about your mental and physical state.

Expect to do a vast amount of practice, experiments galore and leave feeling equipped to truly help yourself and your students explore the potential of the breath.

Units include:

1.The mechanics and science of breath: how and why do we breathe?

2. Poor Breathing Behaviours: how our environment and lifestyle has altered our normal breathing parameters

3. How to recalibrate your breath back to a normal functioning state

4. Breath and the Mind – the breath/mind feedback loop and how it works

5. Monitoring Mental and emotional state using the breath and some super special techniques

6. Biohacking the Breath – using some innovative exercises to optimise mental and emotional wellbeing under stress by controlling the breath

7. Breathing for Peak Physical Performance – simple techniques that most people don’t even realise will instantly improve their physical performance

Open to practitioners and teachers; discover how to improve your own breathing and that of your students in totally new and efficient ways.

All of our teacher intensives have the underlying exploration of who you really are as a yoga teacher. Working through the medium of breath, mindfulness or movement we start to peel back the superficial layers that hide what you really have to offer the world.

In this week-end the focus is our breath.

These two days together will take us on a journey of understanding ourselves through not only the breath, but the breath in connection to the body and the mind. We will consider whether traditional yoga pranayama is really the most effective and useful set of tools for most peoples’ poor breathing habits and if not, then what should we be working with?

Explore the full potential of your breath and why it is the most powerful tool the ancient yogis chose to work with. Combining the best training and breath correction techniques from free-diving training, Wim Hof method as well as breath work tools from Russian Systema to Taoism, join Dan to investigate the outer limits of where your breath and the absence of it can take you.

Topics will also include:

Anatomy and physiology of how and why we breathe
Examining the most common poor breathing habits in ourselves and the general population
Correcting breathing patterns and breathing more efficiently and easily
Breathing games, tools and drills from various disciplines
Breath work for anxiety and stress
Breathing effectively and efficiently as a teacher
Open to practitioners and teachers; discover how to improve your own breathing and that of your students in totally new and unfamiliar ways.
